CUSTODIAN

 

Under the general direction of the Lead Custodian/Custodial Supervisor, Custodians perform a wide variety of custodial duties in order to provide a clean, orderly, and safe campus environment; and perform related work as required.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Duties are performed on campus and off-site as needed. The standard workdays for the position will be Monday-Thursday, 9:30 AM - 5:30 PM and Friday, 6:00 AM - 2:00 PM. Working effectively and collaboratively in a team environment is a must.  Working conditions are as follows:

 

Custodians primarily work indoors; exterior custodial duties and traveling between buildings will take place outdoors. May be subject to inclement weather while working outdoors. The work may be strenuous at times and includes lifting heavy objects, and standing, stooping, and kneeling for long periods. Custodians risk exposure to blood, bodily fluids, blood borne pathogens, infections, and chemicals; and must follow strict safety procedures to avoid injuries.

 

This is a non-exempt, full-time, regular position. Overtime may be required as necessary.

 

All schedules include a half-hour paid lunch break.

 

*WAGE RANGE:  *$17.00 - $18.00 per hour

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Will on occasion be required to drive on behalf of Perry Technical Institute. Employee must possess a working vehicle, hold a valid driver's license, have an acceptable driving record, and produce proof of insurance.
  • Must be willing to consent to a drug test.

     

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • One year of assignment-related custodial experience.

     

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Perform a wide variety of routine and comprehensive custodial duties throughout campus.

Vacuum, shampoo, sweep, and mop floors.

Clean windows, glass surfaces, and mirrors.

Change out soiled dust mops, wet mop heads, and cleaning rags.

Use cleaning solutions to remove stains and clean surfaces.

Dust furniture, fixtures, surfaces, and equipment.

Gather and empty trash and clean trashcans inside and out.

Service, clean, and supply restrooms.

Gather and empty recycling as needed.

Strip, seal, finish, and polish floors.

Follow procedures for using chemicals and operating power equipment.

Monitor building security by double checking doors are locked and reporting suspicious activity.

Identify and report safety concerns.

Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
