Job Summary

Oversee the operation of and provide leadership to the Operation and Maintenance Support team of an offshore Wind Turbine Installation Vessel, which will support offshore wind development customers and projects in a safe and compliant manner. Lead the development and evolution of operations and maintenance priorities, strategies, and procedures. Organize, plan, and execute monthly O&M reporting and monitor performance.

Supervise the implementation of the Safety Management System (SMS) in accordance with the International Safety Management (ISM) code. Manage the Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality (HSEQ) program. Review safety reports from the vessel and ensure that appropriate action is taken to ensure the safety of all vessel personnel. Develop root cause analysis reports for safety, environmental, and significant operational issues. Overall responsible for the preventive maintenance system for all vessel equipment as well as required regulatory inspections.

Lead Operations/Maintenance Coordinators who coordinate the operation, maintenance, repair, and overhaul of vessel equipment. Oversee operations/maintenance of the Charybdis to provide safe, reliable, efficient, and economical services to the Charterers. Provide leadership in the implementation of policies, procedures, condition-based assessments, and work methods for electrical, mechanical, welding, I&C, and labor multi-craft maintenance teams. Oversee maintenance of the vessel to provide safe, reliable, efficient, and economical services to the Charterers. Ensure the vessel is maintained within company, state, federal and international environmental policies, regulations, and procedures. Coordinate maintenance activities with other outside entities and Charterers. Ensure vessel equipment is properly maintained and inspected. May also provide partial oversight of in-port operations and mobilization. Responsible for all IT equipment onboard. Coordinate operational activities with other outside entities and Charterers. Responsible for ensuring all inspections for the Certificate of Compliance is maintained.

Liaison with the crewing agent to ensure the crew’s training requirements are current and modified, as required for operational/equipment changes. Responsible for the shore-side staff’s training program to ensure certain individuals meet the requirements to be able to get underway with the vessel. Conduct/review training assessments (technical and non-technical). Coordinate port and pilot services through a port agent. This could include tugs, mooring, stores loads, water and fuel bunkering. Management of vessel modifications carried out keep the vessels within class. Key point of contact with the crew for operation of the vessel. Conduct periodic reviews of the crew’s voyage planning. Thorough knowledge of project management system requirements; strategy development; processes; etc.

Thorough knowledge of vessel systems, equipment, and troubleshooting techniques. Strong understanding and experience with operations and planned maintenance systems & maintenance KPIs. Multidisciplinary technical knowledge with the ability to interpret technical drawings, documents & management reports. Ensure that the vessel is correctly surveyed, documented, approved and remain in class and that all maintenance and modifications activities carried out keep the vessels with class. Manage all service contracts for the vessel, warehousing of critical spares, and procurement of corrective maintenance components. Key point of contact with the crew for maintenance of the vessel.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

  • 7+ years of relevant experience.

  • Advanced knowledge of vessel operations, navigation, electrical and mechanical systems, typically gained through considerable related work experience.

  • Ability to effectively communicate expectations, operational concerns, and interact with a variety of individuals within multiple levels of the organization.

  • Working knowledge of labor contract and employee relations policies.

  • Thorough understanding of safety policies/programs, and environmental and regulatory policies/requirements.

  • Basic knowledge and applications of mathematics, chemistry, physics, and computer operations.

  • Skills: leadership; problem-solving; negotiating; effective communications.

  • Must maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card in good standing status.

Education Requirements

Education Level: Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education: Bachelors

Preferred Disciplines: Operations (Navigation or Maritime), Maintenance (Mechanical, Electrical or Systems Engineering)

Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description

Preferred: Maritime Operations or Engineering License
