Position Summary:

At this level the associate is proficient in most aspects of machining on a broad range of equipment, CNC and/or manual. The associate is confident and will make the proper choices to complete a part in the most efficient and economical manner.  The Level 4 machinist will select the appropriate fixturing, the proper cutting tools, and prepare a CNC program, calculating the correct speeds and feeds for the work material.  The associate can create fixturing from standard components to safely hold a work piece for machining operations.  They can also design special gaging methodology using a Machinist’s handbook when standard gaging is not available.  At this level the associate has a greater awareness of the overall business and is able to make method or process improvements to reduce cost, improve quality and reduce lead time. They may interact with associates in other functional areas and can assist with departmental development

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Proficient in most methods of advanced machining on a broad range of CNC and manual equipment.

  • Can develop an appropriate process sequence, prepare CNC programs, calculate speeds and feeds, select tooling and complete a work order in an efficient and economical manner.

  • Proficient in creating processes to generate complex part geometries, rarely needing assistance.

  • Can develop and create part fixturing using standard components to properly and safely hold a part for machining.

  • Can choose appropriate gaging methods per part specifications.  Using reference material, such as the Machinist’s handbook, can create special gaging methodology when standard gages do not exist.

  • Is proficient in use of Geometry and Trigonometry.

  • Ability to use CAM software to create and / or edit programming.

  • Demonstrates the ability to determine why there is abnormal machine operation, dimensional problems or cosmetic problems during the machining process.

  • Demonstrates the ability to improve methods to reduce production time or improve quality, as directed.

  • Works on his/her own and helps answer questions from less qualified associates. 

  • Performs all operator maintenance (scheduled or unscheduled) on equipment.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

Required:

  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.

  • Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift Kegs and Boxes on a regular basis between 25 - 35 pounds and occasionally between 35 - 50 pounds. Considerable standing, stooping and bending is required.

  • May be required to pass pre-employment and annual Vision Acuity tests

Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements: 

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
