The Sidney Daily News is seeking an energetic general assignment reporter. The position will cover a wide range of news and events, ranging from crime to courts to local government to festivals/events to business. Writing feature stories will be part of the responsibilities, as will coordinating the paper's special sections.

The successful candidate will be a strong reporter and writer and will have input on the topics they cover. Photography and videography skills are a plus. Occasional night and weekend work will be required.

We're open to someone just breaking into the business who might benefit from coaching by editors, or to an experienced reporter who wants to help us reinvent how we tell people the news that's relevant to them. We have proven to be good training grounds for writers who enter the industry; our reporters have gone on to work for large publications, including several in the Dayton area.

The Sidney Daily News is the paper of record for Shelby County with roots stretching back over 100 years. We routinely place in Ohio APME competitions. We publish twice weekly (Wednesdays and Saturdays) and are focusing on producing a stronger daily product on our website.

Sidney is an affordable city with a population a little over 20,000 located about 45 minutes north of Dayton on Interstate 75. The city is enjoying a downtown revitalization and is home to one of the best city parks around. Numerous recreation opportunities abound in the region, including two state parks located in or near Shelby County. The county is home to Country Concert, one of the largest outdoor concerts in the country each year
