Core Responsibilities
This role will be a hybrid work schedule (3 days a week in office).
The Con Edison Law Department, Practice Operations department is implementing a Contracting Center of Excellence (CoE). The Contracts Specialist role includes diverse legal tasks, including assisting attorneys in reviewing and drafting real estate and other agreements, drafting documents, analyzing title and survey and preparing closing documents. The selected candidate will support Commercial Transactions attorneys in the Law Department. The Contracts Specialist will report to the Senior Contracts Manager in the COE. The role requires a hybrid work schedule (3 days a week in office).
Assist attorneys in reviewing and drafting real estate and other agreements, easements, leases, and licenses associated with clean energy and other utility projects, including regulated interconnection matters.
Review and analyze title and survey.
Manage and prepare exhibits to agreements and closing documents.
Perform legal research.
Handle administrative functions relating to the CoE and the Law Department.
Perform other assignments, as requested.
The foregoing responsibilities are expected to be handled with a moderate level of supervision
Assist the company during system emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment. This may require off-hour and weekend emergency response.
Required Education/Experience
High School Diploma/GED and and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience. or
Associate's Degree and and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience. or
Bachelor's Degree and and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
Preferred Education/Experience
Bachelor's Degree and and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
Paralegal Certificate and and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
Relevant Work Experience
2 years Paralegal or legal assistant experience. Required
Must be able to work well independently and in a team environment. Required
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Required
Experienced in reviewing title reports, real estate documents and surveys. Required
Must be detail-oriented with good analytical skills and ability to efficiently handle multiple tasks and projects with competing priorities and deadlines. Required
Must have excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and handle internal and external contacts professional with tact and sensitivity. Required
Must be disciplined and have excellent time management skills. Required
Must have strong interpersonal skills as well as exemplary follow-up skills and ability to work effectively with employees at all levels. Required
Familiarity with NYC ACRIS and/or other online county recording systems. Preferred
Licenses & Certifications
Driver's License Required
Other: Notary Public license required within 6 months of start date. Required
Other Physical Demands
Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
Must be able and willing to travel within Company service territory, as needed.
