Job ID361152 LocationAll Other -See Job Description Job FamilyResearch-Researchers Full/Part TimeFull-Time Regular/TemporaryRegular Job Code9742R5 Employee ClassAcad Prof and Admin About the Job Design Algorithms & Research (60%) Explore foundation model architectures for scientific problems such as those that can capture complex physical properties to minimize hallucinations that are experienced by traditional LLMs, such as ChatGPT. Deep interaction with domain experts to identify relevant scientific concepts that can be incorporated into foundation model architectures. Design self-supervised machine learning algorithms that will use images from Maxar, PlanetScope, Sentinel, and Landsat to create foundation models for key downstream applications such as crop detection. Data Management (20%) Develop and execute an effective data management pipeline needed to handle large amounts of data required for building these models. Use data gathered to inform models, including adjusting the model as new data becomes available. Participate in sponsored project proposal submission related to these research efforts. Lab Citizen (20%) Mentor graduate students in the Kumar lab, specifically coaching on research design and proposal writing related to algorithm development. Attend lab meetings. This position will be located in the state of Colorado. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Advanced degree in computer science with 1 or more years of research training Preferred Qualifications: PhD in computer science. 3+ years of post PhD research experience in the areas of deep learning, large-scale processing of spatio-temporal datasets, research experience in knowledge-guided machine learning for scientific applications. Demonstrated experience in leading technical writing and communication with non-technical audiences. Demonstrated experience of leading collaboration efforts with domain experts. Demonstrated experience in mentoring junior researchers from multiple domains.
